* Are you finding the information and resources you need?
I have been really lucky to have been introduced to the Atomic learning website. This has been helpful when working with new technology. I am able to do a quick tutorial and see a video on how to use different programs. The group of teachers I am currently working with have came to a standstill. We have not been able to get together to work on our online course and they seem to have very little desire to do so. I plan on signing up to take a test out class for Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
* Do you need to modify your action plan?
I think my plan is okay. It is just going to take more time and effort to get it accomplished.
* What have you learned so far?
I have learned some new tricks in power point and have been able to start a new project with my students involving a lot of technology. Mostly research and information videos. They will be completing this project with a power point report assessing their knowledge of their chosen state.
* What new questions have arisen?
I have been wondering how long the computers in my classroom will last. They seem to be having more and more problems each day and with my boys not being allowed to use the wireless lab. I am wondering how we will be able to add the amount of technology to our everyday routine as I would like.

Why aren't they allowed to use the wireless lab? We have a new wireless lab this year, and I am not impressed! It is extremely slow, and I feel my students will get frustrated before even getting started! Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteDanika,
ReplyDeleteMy plan is going to take longer than expected as well. I am glad I am not alone.
I am really concerned about your boys not being allowed to use the mobile lab. Who won't allow them to use the mobile lab and with what justifiaction? I annot imagine a reasonable one! It seems to me that this is a case of descrimination and needs to be rectified. I don't know all of the laws and statutes relating to special education, but if your administration was presented with their legal obligations, I think that policy would change right quick!
Shauna,
ReplyDeleteMy students are not allowed to use the wireless lab because of their lack of respect for the computers. With having a classroom of Emotional/Behavioral Disordered students they are not always careful when using computers and the rest of the school agreed that they can not be trusted with this responsibility.
Nancy,
ReplyDeleteI agree with them about my boys not using the mobile lab, I would be a wreck worrying that they would break them. We have enough computers in our classroom to meet our needs at this time. Some are older than others but work most of the time. We currently have one computer down, but that is because one of the boys did something to it and I haven't figured out what as of yet.
There are 500 + students in our school and my 6 boys put a strain on a lot of activities that happen with in the building. Them destroying our only lab doesn't seem fair. I have a few students that are out in general ed during that classes computer time that will join them when using the lab but if they are not out then they are not going to be given the opportunity.
Danika,
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out that Atomic Learning site you mentioned. What have you learned from it?
The computer lab at our elementary school is very old. I'm going to try and use it starting next week with my 2nd grade art students and hope all works out well. I feel your pain with using outdated technology that is slow and doesn't always work. It is good, though, that you try your best to use technology with your special education students. There are many practice and drill software programs that can help them with basic content area skills. I personally like the Jumpstart brand software.
